Auctioneer Resale Test
I have had the Auctioneer add-on for a very long time. Until recently I didn’t know just how much money I could have been making using the program. Using “Gavin Garrett’s Auctionhouse Mastery Guide,” (140+ pages of great information) I set up the functions of Auctioneer (most of which, I had no idea existed). The Guide suggested that I scan the AH once or twice a day for a few weeks to get a good price base. And lists examples of things to ignore in your money making efforts.
Armed with this new information, I decided to conduct an experiment. I have been scanning the AH every day for 3-4 weeks so I figured my prices were pretty accurate. I created a new banker, sent her 1000 gold and 4 16 slot bags. I wanted to see just how much money Auctioneer could make me. The theory: No checking prices, no double guessing Auctioneer, just bid or buyout what it said I should (with a few exceptions), then resale everything I won using the Appraiser function.
For 3 days I did the AH scan then the resale scan. I bought or bid on everything that was blue in the PTC column. Things that I knew from experience would not sell I clicked ignore, or if I wasn’t sure about it I clicked ignore price. The first day I spent 1000g. About 450g was returned to me because I got “out bid”. So I went back and did the process again. It took about 3 times to spend all 1000g (leaving a little to so I’d have enough for the AH fees to relist the items).
It must have taken at least 5 trips back and forth to the AH to clean the items out of my mailbox. I relisted every item using the Appraiser function. I didn’t look at any of the items, or check prices myself. I just let Auctioneer do all the work for me. Tip: I made sure that I had the “Batch Process” function check marked then pushed the button and walked away while Auctioneer relisted all 80 items in my bags for me. At the end of this I had 500+ auctions going and about 20g to my name.
The first 24 hours were a bit stressful. I sold about 1/3+ in the first 48 hours. Then I started over, relisting the things that didn’t sell. After relisting everying I bought about 3 times I took a look at the items that didn’t sell. I had about 150 items left. I decided to purge. I looked at each item, used my Enchantrix and either sold them to a vendor or disenchanted them then sold the dust/shard/essence in the AH, whichever would get me more money.
The result:
My mail box is empty, I have no auctions currently going and 1775g 49s 36c to my name. Not bad I’d say.
My new plan is to scan the AH once per day. Do a resale scan on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, buying out or bidding on whatever Auctioneer tells me to. Then Thursday night I will start relisting all of the items I’ve won during the week. Rinse and repeat. I’d recommend purging unsold items every 2-3 weeks, or when you just get tired of seeing them in your mailbox.

I have been tracking a similar experiment over most of the month of December ’08. By doing just the DE and Vendor searches, and buying or biding on everything, I was able to make approx. 6k gold in under 4 weeks. So, it works! If you need help getting set up and making money in the AH please do ask. ;)
