Part 5 of 7: Farming Primal Mana

The 5th of the seven primals that I’m going to cover will be Primal Mana. I’ve found 2 great locations to farm Motes of Mana. Both places are very good and have regular drop rates. One of these spots has a higher drop rate and is farmed more, but if you manage to get it to yourself it’s the best area I’ve found in Outland.

Farming Locations

The best spot I’ve found for happens to have the highest drop rate for the Motes of Mana (10 Mote of Mana = 1 Primal Mana). It’s Bash’ir Landing located in the northern part of Blade’s Edge Mountains near coordinates 54,18. The mobs you will be farming are the Unbound Etherael and the Phase Wyrm (level 70-71). You do have to have a flying mount to reach this area.

The Unbound Ethereal have a 33% drop rate and are easy to kill whether you are a melee or caster class. They roam around the area and can be single pulled in most cases. The Phase Wyrms are a bit trickier. You must be “phased” to see them. You need to kill the Unbound Ethereals until a Bash’ir Phasing Device drops off of one of them. You click on the phasing device and the Unbound Ethereals become invisible, but you can now see the Phase Wyrms. There is no time limit on the phasing, but if you are killed (by the Opposite faction or a Phase Wyrm ) or leave the Bash’ir Landing area – you lose the buff, and must get another device. I generally kill between 1-5 mobs to get my Bash’ir Phasing Device The Phase Wyrms have a 33% drop rate but are equipped with electric skin that hits for 36 nature damage in addition to their regular damage. This makes them much easier to farm if you use a class that does ranged damage.

A Note about Blade’s Edge

Something to remember: The Blade’s Edge Mountains location does have the best overall drop rate for the Motes of Mana, but is heavily farmed. If you are planning on hunting the Phase Wyrms you must first accept the daily quest: Intercepting the Mana Cells. It starts from Exarch Nasuun of The Shattered Sun Offensive in Shattrath. The Bash’ir Phasing Device you will need in order to see the Phase Wyrms will only drop if you are on the quest. Completing the quest gives you: Shattered Sun Supplies (I’ve always gotten a green item and even a Badge of Justice here and there), 10g 10s and 250 reputation with the Shattered Sun Offensive. I have always left the area with 3-8 motes of mana just doing the quest. It just depends on how many Phase Wyrms I had to kill to complete the quest.

Easy Killing

Netherstorm is another good location to farm Motes of Mana. The area that I have found to be the best is just north of area 52 along the edge of the zone from coordinates 34, 49 to 24, 53. You will be farming the Phase Hunters and Nether Rays (level 67-68) to get Mote of Mana (10 Mote of Mana = 1 Primal Mana).

These mobs are famed less, are lower levels and are easier to kill than the ones in Blade’s Edge Mountains but the drop rates are lower. Both the Phase Hunters and Nether Rays have a 25%-26% drop rate. These mobs are much easier for melee but are very annoying for mana users due to the Mana Burn, Spell Reflect, and Arcane Immunity abilities on the Phase Hunters.

Price

In the AH on our server Primal Mana is going for 20-24 gold each right now.

Make sure to watch for more strategies about farming primals under Tips of the Trade. I hope that I have helped.

Happy Hunting and Be Safe,

This is great information. I will have to try out the spot/daily in BEM. Another place that works really well for farming primal mana is to run the daily herbalism gathering quest that’s used for gaining Reputation with The Netherwing in Shadowmoon Valley (SMV). http://www.wowwiki.com/Netherwing
Even though I have my drake I still head over there often to farm motes of mana for primals and to pick pollen for the daily quest. The drop rate on motes isn’t too bad and the quest is an easy 12g.
