Karazhan
Grendels Bane is getting bigger and better every day. We are proud to have not only over 50 members, but enough active accounts that we can start running raids. We also have 20 members that are level 70 or higher, most are alts I know but that still puts over half our guild members with at least 1 level 70.
Last week we decided to see just how “Uber” we were these days. Sokka and Shazuku thought it was time we attempted Karazhan. We have all been keyed for a very long time but only Sonaris (once) and Katrysta (twice) have ever been in there. We set up a date and time and got 6 resounding Yeses.
So In we went, Sokka, Shazuku, Katrysta, Sonaris, Mysiaa and Zarint.

We didn’t really have that much trouble, even with limited CC. Sonaris even got a few upgrades. We had a couple stupid deaths due to AFK healer, and someone tabbing and shooting the wrong group of mobs (ahem Zarint, cough). But overall, we did very well.
Tip: If you die during a boss fight in Karazhan, do not release unless it’s a complete wipe. You cannot reenter the instance if your raid is still in battle and you will miss out on the loot from the boss. We learned this the hard way and Zarint missed out on some upgrades (we all still feel pretty bad about that, but we’ll try again).

Moroes

Maiden of Virtue

We got Romulo and Julianne in the Theater. The trick here is they both need to die as close to the same time as you can or they just keep rezzing.

Terestian Illhoof

Netherspite isn’t particularly hard. You just need to remember to have someone in each of the colored streams of light at all times. It seems that they give him whatever buff your raid member would get, more life, better heals, hit harder, etc. He also does a black hole thing one ground, don’t stand in it.

The Chess match was very interesting (Sonaris hated it). The object is to kill the other side’s King. You start the match by taking control of your own King. Each of the other raid members pick a piece and you play. Tip: if your piece gets killed run back to the board and take control of another. The rules of regular chess don’t apply and your piece can move however you want. After you win the match, a chest spawns with the loot in it.

Prince Malchezaar was the most interesting of our fights. The Prince has 3 phases. During the 1st, he throws out a debuff that takes everyone (except whomever has the most aggro) to 1hp. When you see that on you, run as far from him as you can before he casts his Shadow Nova or you die. After he casts Shadow Nova your life is restored. He also casts infernals at random points in the area. They don’t move around but do AOE fire damage (they eventually go away so just kite him around and stay away from them). Phase 2 he duel wields and does more direct melee damage, he still does all the stuff he does in phase 1. Phase 3 he no longer casts the debuff, but still casts the infernals, he also summons 2 axe NPC’s that attack players at random.
We started Prince Malchezaar with 5 people (Zarint was unable to come). We all did pretty well for the first few minutes. Then we had so many infernals that it was hard to run to safety when the debuff was cast (I know that’s what killed a couple of us). Shortly after phase 2 started (around 75% health) everyone was dead except Shazuku and Katrysta. I didn’t think we’d be able to do anything but kept trying anyway. It was crazy! I couldn’t believe it but Shazuku and Katrysta took him down. I’ll tell you it was a photo finish though, Kat had no mana left and was almost dead, Shaz only had a couple thousand hps left (I have over 30 thousand fully buffed now), there were so many infernals that there was no safe place to stand except the doorway. And somehow we managed to kill him. A story for the ages (There I was…. Just me and my healer……).
Anyway, now we know we can 5-6 man the whole thing (Except for the Shade of Aran that killed all of us 4 times and we gave up) so we’ll be back. We have 3 guild members that are leveling fast and will be ready to come with us soon enough.
