Ritual of Summoning

I’ll admit that I’ve never really had that much use for the Ritual of Summoning (aside from the odd player paying me to summon their friend). Kimico usually quests alone or with Raynee or pvps. I don’t run many dungeons with her unless I have quests.

In the old days each summon took one soul shard and you could only summon one player at a time. I imagine this made summoning absent raid member very tedious and costly to the warlock who only has so many soul shards to go around.

Around November 2008 (ish) this all changed. Ritual of Summoning still takes one soul shard and 2 party members in addition to the warlock to complete. But now when you’ve completed the ritual a Summoning Portal will appear. Now everyone in your party/raid can use this portal to summon every absent party/raid member. The portal lasts 5 minutes and still takes 2 players to use (just like the meeting stones). The portal can be used inside instances (if the player meets lvl requirements etc…).

I know this is not breaking news, the change happened last November(ish). But if you’re like me and never actually used it until lately (summoning raid members for Wintergrasp and Vault of Archavon) you may have a couple questions. Mine was: Ok, so I know how to summon people in my own party/raid group, how do I summon people who aren’t in my raid group? I found 2 ways. You can open the raid window and right click on the player’s name to set focus on them, then when your focus is set you can summon them (you will have to clear focus afterward). Or, perhaps faster, you can type /target player name (/target Raynee) to select the player then click the Summoning Portal.

Hope this little bit of info helps others. No more summoning the portal and hoping someone else in the raid knows how to use it.
