It’s not your imagination. Everyone IS wearing the same pink Tabard. And it’s not because it just looks so cool.

Instead of just collecting dust and wasting space in your bank, Tabards are actually useful now. Since WotLK introduced the Northrend factions to us, it also created a new way to gain reputation with those factions. Instead of waiting until you hit exalted to get their Tabard, you can now get it at friendly. The reason for this is because if you wear the Tabard while in a level 78 or higher (UP seems to be the lowest one that counts) dungeon all of the rep you would earn is applied to the faction who’s Tabard you are currently wearing.

If you aren’t wearing a Tabard your reputation goes to Alliance Vanguard (which is handy for those engineers trying to get exalted so they can make their Mekgineer’s Chopper).

For those of us that run a lot of dungeons this makes getting reputation much easier.
